Chronic fatigue

Chronic fatigue

Chronic fatigue is characterized by persistent fatigue that does not improve with rest.

It can be associated with different factors: hormonal, metabolic, inflammatory, nutritional or stress-related.

This fatigue can have an impact on daily activities and requires a medical assessment.

Most common symptoms

Chronic fatigue often manifests as a set of signs that goes beyond simple "temporary fatigue".

Among the common symptoms:

  • Persistent fatigue, even after a night of sleep
  • Sensation of heaviness or exhaustion upon waking
  • Very slow physical recovery
  • Difficulty concentrating, "mental fog"
  • Decreased motivation or willpower
  • Irritability, anxiety or emotional fluctuations
  • Decrease in physical performance
  • Non-restorative sleep
  • Headaches, diffuse pain or muscle tension
  • Hypersensitivity to stress

These manifestations often indicate an underlying dysfunction that can be identified and corrected.

Where does chronic fatigue come from?

Chronic fatigue is multifactorial. Among the most common causes:

  • Hormonal imbalances (thyroid, cortisol, testosterone, estrogen, DHEA)
  • Prolonged stress and disruption of the cortisol axis
  • Low-grade chronic inflammation
  • Micronutritional deficiencies (iron, vitamin D, B12, magnesium...)
  • Sleep disorders or undiagnosed apnea
  • Gut microbiota perturbations
  • Persistent infections or viral history
  • Overwork or physiological exhaustion
  • Insulin resistance or metabolic disorders

Understanding the exact origin allows to propose an effective and sustainable treatment.

Therapeutic approach

Care is based on an individualized medical approach, adapted to the clinical situation.

It may include:

  • a biological assessment
  • the correction of certain deficiencies
  • dietary adaptations
  • the consideration of sleep
  • recommendations adapted to the lifestyle
  • medical follow-up if necessary

The goal is to improve symptoms and adapt management based on evolution.
